What exactly is the meaning of Esèntáyé
The word Esèntáyé literally breaks down to Ẹsẹ̀ (foot), tẹ̀ (to step or press), and ayé (the world/earth). Collectively, it signifies the moment a newborn child steps onto the earth for the very first time.

According to traditional rites, this sacred ceremony is strictly performed three days after a child is born, regardless of whether the baby is a boy or a girl. Before this ritual takes place, the child’s feet are intentionally kept from making direct contact with the bare earth. The ceremony marks their formal introduction to the physical and spiritual realm they will inhabit.

Esèntáyé is much more than a welcoming party; it is a vital spiritual consultation led by an Ifa priest (Babalawo).
